Kathmandu Valley UNESCO Day Tour

7:45 AM — Hotel Pickup. Our guide and private vehicle meet us at the hotel lobby promptly at 7:45 AM. An early start beats both the city's traffic and the crowds, and puts us at Pashupatinath while the morning rituals are still in full rhythm.

8:15 AM – 9:30 AM — Pashupatinath Temple. Time on site: 75 min. We begin at Pashupatinath, Nepal's most sacred Hindu temple, spread along the banks of the Bagmati River. As non-Hindus are not permitted inside the main pagoda, we view it from the eastern terraces across the river — the best vantage point, and where our guide explains the temple's role in Hindu cosmology, the resident sadhus, and the cremation ghats below. This is a place of active mourning and ritual, so we move through respectfully and quietly. Photography of cremation ceremonies is not permitted.

9:45 AM – 11:00 AM — Boudhanath Stupa. Time on site: 75 min. A short drive brings us to Boudhanath, whose immense white dome and painted all-seeing eyes make it one of the most recognisable landmarks in the Himalaya. We walk the kora — the ritual clockwise circuit — alongside Tibetan pilgrims and resident monks, then take time on one of the rooftop terraces overlooking the plaza for tea or coffee.

11:15 AM – 12:30 PM — Kathmandu Durbar Square. Time on site: 75 min. Back across the city to the old royal quarter, where Durbar Square's temples, statues, and carved former palace complex reflect centuries of Malla-era craftsmanship. We take in the Kumari Ghar — home of Kathmandu's living goddess — Hanuman Dhoka Palace, and Taleju Temple's exterior, with our guide unpacking the square's layered political and religious history.

12:30 PM – 1:30 PM — Lunch Break. An hour to rest and eat at a local restaurant near Durbar Square, serving both Newari specialities and familiar international options. Lunch is not included in the tour price, giving flexibility to choose what and where to eat.

1:45 PM – 3:30 PM — Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple). Time on site: 105 min, incl. climb. The day's final stop is Swayambhunath, one of the oldest religious sites in the valley. A gentle stepped climb — around 365 steps — walked at an easy pace with stops along the way leads up through resident macaque troops to the hilltop stupa, where the entire Kathmandu Valley opens out below. On clear afternoons, the Himalayan skyline is visible on the northern horizon.

4:00 PM — Return & Hotel Drop-off. We descend Swayambhunath's western stairway to the vehicle and drive back through the city, arriving at the hotel by approximately 4:00 PM — timed to leave the evening free.
