Fly from Pokhara to Annapurna Base Camp in under 90 minutes and land at 4,130m inside the Annapurna Sanctuary — no trekking required, with shared and private charter options.
Few places on earth let you trade a week of trekking for less than two hours in the air — and still land in the middle of it. The Annapurna Base Camp Helicopter Tour lifts off from Pokhara and climbs directly into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a natural amphitheater ringed by Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli. Within roughly twenty minutes the terraced hillsides below give way to glacier and rock, and the helicopter sets down at 4,130 metres for around half an hour of open-air time among peaks that most visitors only ever see from a trekking trail days away.
This tour suits travellers with limited time in Nepal, those unable to manage the physical demands of a multi-day trek, and anyone who simply wants the Annapurna high country without the knee-jarring descent afterward. Photographers get a clean, low-crowd window at sunrise; families and older travellers get the same Himalayan payoff without the altitude gain being spread over days. Both a shared seat and a private charter are available, so solo travellers and full groups are equally well served.
Land directly inside the Annapurna Sanctuary at 4,130m, a spot most visitors reach only after a multi-day trek
Close-range views of Annapurna I (8,091m), Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Annapurna South from the helipad
Round trip from Pokhara completed in about 80 minutes, door to door
Aerial views of Phewa Lake, Pokhara Valley, and the terraced hill villages on the way up
No trekking fitness required — accessible for seniors, families, and travellers on tight schedules
Choice of a shared group seat or a fully private helicopter charter
Onboard emergency oxygen for added safety at altitude
Ideal short add-on for travellers combining Kathmandu and Pokhara on one Nepal itinerary
We leave our hotel in the dark hours before sunrise, when Pokhara's lakeside streets are still quiet, and reach the domestic terminal for a short security and weight check before boarding. As the helicopter lifts off, the city drops away fast — Phewa Lake catches the first light below us, and the terraced fields around Dhampus and Landruk unroll like a green staircase climbing toward the mountains. Within minutes the hills give way to steeper, forested ridgelines, and the cabin grows quieter as Machhapuchhre rises directly ahead, its fishtail summit catching the sun before anything else around it. We track the same valley that Annapurna Base Camp trekkers spend a week walking, only from several thousand feet above their trail, watching the vegetation thin from rhododendron forest to bare rock and ice in the space of a few minutes. The helicopter banks into the Annapurna Sanctuary itself, a natural bowl walled in on all sides by 7,000 and 8,000-metre peaks, and sets down on the snowfield beside Annapurna Base Camp. Stepping out at 4,130 metres, the silence is immediate — no engines, no trail noise, just wind and the scale of Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, and Annapurna South closing in on every side. We have around thirty minutes here for photos before the thin air and cold start to bite. Climbing back aboard, we lift off for the return leg, tracing the same route back down through the valley as the light shifts and the lake reappears below. Twenty minutes later we touch down at Pokhara Airport, and a private vehicle carries us back to our hotel — the whole experience, start to finish, fitting neatly into a single morning.
