Hot Air Balloon Ride in Pokhara

There's no better way to understand why Pokhara draws trekkers and travelers from across the world than to see it from above, drifting silently over the valley as the Annapurna Range and Machapuchare (Fishtail) catch the light. A hot air balloon ride here is less an "activity" and more a slow, floating introduction to the entire region — the terraced hillsides, Phewa Lake, and the jagged white wall of the Himalaya all visible at once, without a single step of walking required.

Flights operate across three daily slots — a morning first flight, a morning second flight, and an evening flight — giving travelers flexibility to fit the experience around a rest day, an arrival day, or the morning before a longer trek begins. Each flight stays within the Laurukh and Pame Valley, covering a radius of around 2 km and rising above 1,000 ft, with the exact flight duration (around 30 minutes) shifting slightly depending on the day's weather.

We're collected from around 2 km of Lakeside ahead of our chosen flight slot and driven the short distance to the launch site at Laurukh. By the time we arrive, the crew is already inflating the envelope, and there's time to watch the balloon rise upright while the pilot runs through a short safety briefing. Boarding is simple: we step into the woven basket, hold on as instructed, and within moments the ground begins to fall away beneath us.

Once airborne, the Laurukh and Pame Valley unfolds beneath us — Phewa Lake appearing as a still sheet below, terraced fields in green and gold patchwork, and on clear days, the white summits of the Annapurna Range and Machapuchare in the distance. After around 30 minutes in the air, we begin our descent toward the landing field, where the ground crew is waiting, and most flights end with a flight certificate handed to each passenger before the short drive back.
