Overview

This is Pokhara's signature day hike — a full loop through three of the Annapurna foothills' best-known viewpoints in a single, well-paced day. We climb from Phedi through forest to Dhampus, continue to the open grassy ridge of Australian Camp for one of the widest 360-degree mountain panoramas accessible without an overnight trek, and loop back down through Pothana to close the circuit. Along the way, the trail passes through working Gurung villages, terraced farmland, and rhododendron forest, giving a genuine sense of Annapurna trekking conditions and culture, condensed into roughly eight to nine hours out of Pokhara.

Detailed Itinerary

Day by Day
Day 1 Dhampus -Australian Camp -Pothana Day Hike
Lunch
Dhampus – Australian Camp – Pothana Day Hike Hotel → Phedi/Kande (drive) → Dhampus → Australian Camp → Pothana → Phedi/Kande → Hotel
6:30 AM
Hotel Pickup An earlier start than a standard half-day hike, allowing time to complete the full loop comfortably. We drive to Phedi or Kande, roughly 45 minutes to an hour from Lakeside.
7:30 AM
Start of Hike From the trailhead, the climb begins immediately through forest, gaining height toward Dhampus.
7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Hike to Dhampus (approx. 2 hrs) The trail climbs steadily through mixed forest before opening onto the terraced fields around Dhampus, a Gurung village with long-standing ties to Gurkha military service. Annapurna South comes into view as we clear the treeline.
9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Dhampus to Australian Camp (approx. 1.5 hrs) From Dhampus, we continue along a gentler ridge trail toward Australian Camp, named for the flat, grassy meadow where Australian trekkers once regularly pitched camp. This viewpoint delivers one of the most complete panoramas in the region — Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre arranged almost in a single sweeping arc.
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Australian Camp Viewpoint & Lunch (90 min) We take time here to properly absorb the 360-degree views before lunch at a lodge on the ridge, with the mountain panorama still in front of us throughout the meal.
12:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Descent via Pothana (approx. 2 hrs) The descent loops through Pothana, another small Gurung settlement, before dropping back down through forest to meet the road — closing the loop rather than retracing the morning's route.
3:00 PM
Drive Back to Pokhara We meet our vehicle and drive back to Pokhara, arriving at the hotel by mid-to-late afternoon.
